Even as a non-gardener (now amateur), I love plants, but I hate bugs. I hate the feeling of dirt under my nails. In fact, I just hate(d2) the outdoors. To this end I’ve always encouraged Ari’s (my husband) gardening habit. I’ve also hidden indoors every time he’s asked me to help. I try, I really do, but over 8 legs on a bug (spiders are cool, but millipedes and centipedes…) and I FREAK out. And our soil is FULL of them. I kinda feel like I want to throw up just thinking about it. *shudder*
Moving along to the greater end of helping Ari, my mom shared a comprehensive blog post with me about the best paper gardening catalogues. If you’ve ever read “$64 Tomato,” you’ll know that feeling the moment you see its glossy photos. And, if you haven’t, get on that. One word: Superchuck. If you only read one chapter, read that one. Makes the book all worth it.
If you decide to purchase $64 Tomato, please consider using my affiliate link through Amazon. I get a cut of the shares, and that will go a long way in supporting my experiments. $64 Tomato https://amzn.to/2N6XvhQ
If you order one catalogue this year, order Baker Creek’s. It’s got that major WOW factor. And if you subscribe today you’ll be entered in a very special giveaway from Baker Creek for a $50 gift certificate!3
Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
Baker Creek has my heart captured. They offer heirloom seeds at very reasonable prices. The plants are exotic and spectacular. I’d say I purchase the most seeds from them each year since we found them.
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange has inexpensive heirloom flowers and food. The photos, drawings and descriptions are very helpful.
Jung Seeds & Plants
Jung specializes in trees, food, flowers, and roses. That’s all fine and good, but I think the appeal with Jung is that they sell garden and seed growing equipment and tools, and the prices are competitive with big box stores.
Totally Tomatoes
It’s pretty straightforward. Tomatoes for days.
Fedco
Just full of beautiful whimsy, this catalogue has excellent descriptions of each seed, with various anecdotes and other information sprinkled throughout. There are no photos, so either be prepared to know what you’re looking for or to read. A lot.
I have 9 other catalogues to review, so this post will continue into other blog posts. Please subscribe and share!

I still hate >8 legged bugs and the feeling of dirt under my nails, but that’s what a good pair of leather gloves are for.
